I typically book hotels when I travel in the UK, as I usually look for amenities such as indoor pools or nice restaurants/bars. However, for an overnight stay in York, I decided to book The MinsterWalk Guest House, an independently run guesthouse in the city center.

Location and Parking:

One concern when staying in the city center is parking, but MinsterWalk provides allocated parking spots just a few minutes’ walk away. The location is unbeatable, with a view of the ancient City Walls and some rooms offering stunning views of York Minster. Despite being near central attractions, MinsterWalk is situated next to the peaceful Museum Gardens, providing a tranquil respite from the hustle and bustle. Plus, the River Ouse is just a short stroll away.

Rooms and Amenities:

The rooms are uniquely designed, and some have en-suite bathrooms with roll-top baths. The guesthouse provides Yorkshire-grown pocket-sprung mattresses, ensuring a comfortable night’s sleep. There is also a guest lounge with complimentary drinks and sweet treats, where guests can relax and unwind. The lounge also offers free superfast broadband and accessible sockets.

Breakfast:

The MinsterWalk Guest House offers a fully flexible breakfast option, with a self-serve toast and cereal buffet complemented by pre-ordered hot hampers. These hampers include a selection of hot breakfast baps, freshly baked pastries, breakfast yogurts with toppings, and fruit juices. The breakfast order forms are located in the welcome pack, which the breakfast chefs collect from the order box situated in the guest lounge – a cozy and inviting space, perfect for taking a break from the city or recharging after a day of exploring. It’s full of character and curiosities, and there’s something for everyone, whether you want to relax in a cozy corner with a cup of Yorkshire tea, play a game of Scrabble, or get some work done with the free superfast broadband and easily accessible sockets. Complimentary drinks and sweet treats are always available.

If you’re looking for somewhere steeped in history with a twist, The MinsterWalk Guest House is the perfect place for you. It is situated in the ancient Hamlet of Marygate and housed in a building dating back to the 1600s. The guesthouse is next to the York City Walls and York Minster, offering spectacular views and easy access to central attractions. Additionally, there is a pub next door for those who fancy a drink.
